چکیده
WP0 will focus on ensuring efficient coordination and management of SI_ARCTIC. The WP will secure project planning and tracking; that reports are prepared and delivered on time; that communication of administrative and technical information is made to partners; coordination of monthly SI leader team meetings and annual SI and Advisory board meetings, and dissemination of results. Gunnar Sætra is part of the Department of Communication at IMR and will lead the outreach activities in accordance with the dissemination plan given in the grant application form. Information about the project management and organization is given in section 3.3.1.

The Arctic Ocean marine carbon cycle: evaluation of air-sea CO2 exchanges, ocean acidification impacts and potential feedbacks
At present, although seasonal sea-ice cover mitigates atmosphere-ocean gas exchange, the Arctic Ocean takes up carbon dioxide (CO2) on the order of −66 to −199 Tg C year−1 (1012 g C), contributing 5–14% to the global balance of CO2 sinks and sources. Because of this, the Arctic Ocean has an important influence on the global carbon cycle, with the marine carbon cycle and atmosphere-ocean CO2 exc...
متن کاملLinking marine mammal and ocean health in the ‘New Normal’ arctic
The ‘New Normal’ Arctic ecosystem and the reliance of indigenous people on marine mammals for subsistence makes urgent the need for a comprehensive marine mammal health monitoring program linked to regional ocean observing systems. An Arctic-focused Marine Mammal Health Map (MMHM) framework could be initiated via expansion and coordination between regional Ocean Observing Systems and Community-...
متن کاملForum for Arctic Modeling and Observational Synthesis (FAMOS): Past, current, and future activities
The overall goal of the Forum for Arctic Modeling and Observing Synthesis (FAMOS) community activities reported in this special issue is to enhance understanding of processes and mechanisms driving Arctic Ocean marine and sea ice changes, and the consequences of those changes especially in biogeochemical and ecosystem studies. Major 2013–2015 FAMOS accomplishments to date are: identification of...
متن کاملRiverine source of Arctic Ocean mercury inferred from atmospheric observations
Methylmercury is a potent neurotoxin that accumulates in aquatic food webs. Human activities, including industry and mining, have increased inorganic mercury inputs to terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. Methylation of this mercury generates methylmercury, and is thus a public health concern. Marine methylmercury is a particular concern in the Arctic, where indigenous peoples rely heavily on ma...
متن کاملMarine birds as indicators of Arctic marine ecosystem health: linking the Northern Ecosystem Initiative to long-term studies.
Marine birds are sensitive indicators of the condition of marine ecosystems in the Arctic, partly because they feed at the top of the arctic food chain. The Northern Ecosystem Initiative (NEI) recently supported four separate studies that investigated aspects of Arctic marine bird science which simultaneously addressed goals of the NEI to better understand northern ecosystems and their response...
